Gas Detonation Costs Three Police Officers Amid Property Removal Procedure in the Verona Area

A trio of officers were killed and no fewer than 15 others got wounded in a seemingly deliberate detonation from gas at a rural property in the northern part of Italy.

Sequence of Events

The blast took place as officers and emergency crews went into the property close to Verona to carry out an court-ordered eviction for three siblings aged in their 50s and 60s.

All three officers killed served in the Carabinieri force.

Investigation Developments

Two individuals got detained at the location and another man who fled after the blast was apprehended soon after. Each of them have been taken to hospital.

The blast could be noticed as far as 3 miles distant and photographs from the location revealed the structure reduced to a pile of rubble.

The wounded by the blast consisted of eleven more officers of the Carabinieri as well as three officers of the state police and a firefighter.

According to the Verona prosecutor, the farmhouse was in a derelict state and had no electricity.

The official believed the explosion had taken place on a floor above the access point and informed reporters it was a “premeditated and voluntary homicide”. Just prior to the incident, he mentioned officers had “detected a whistling noise, probably the propane tanks being turned on”.

“Everyone was aware the circumstances were severe,” neighbors told local news, mentioning that the three had earlier warned to “detonate the property” rather than vacate the property.

“The incident exacted a ‘dreadful, extremely sad and dramatic price’.”

Defence Minister Guido Crosetto joined other political leaders in commemorating the trio of personnel who had died in the performance of their duties.
